Born in Pittsburgh Pa., nine months after my Dad returned from World War II. My parents had met in the Socialist party, worked in the labor movement and had mellowed into Roosevelt Democrats. I grew up enjoying my membership in the generation dedicated to sex, drugs and rock and roll. Dad died when I was 12, and had some difficult years until I got out of the house and went to college at the University of Arizona. Got a B.A. in Liberal Arts, enjoying courses in History, Anthropology and Government, though with no idea what I was going to do with those studies. Married in my senior year, and went to work after college in the family business as a union organizer for what was then the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Eventually found my way into Child Protective Services, and spent almost 20 years in the Dallas Night Intake Unit doing child abuse investigations after hours and on week ends. Had a son and a daughter by my first marriage and divorced when they were two and four, and after a certain amount of carrying on hooked up with my present wife, Gail. Did a pretty good job at the divorced dad deal, and am a proud, happy parent and grandparent. Recently retired, moved to Austin (a far far better place to be) and exploring some Latin American travel and trade opportunities. Volunteer at 10,000 Villages (Fair Trade organization) and board member on Worlds Touch which provides computer technology to third world Non Government Organizations
